Training
and capacity development of staff is integral to the long-term success of
an organization, be it a government body or private industry. As such, we
have worked with First Nations and Aboriginal organizations to build on existing
talents and increase their professional capacity. For example, we have developed
a thorough capacity development process that includes the development of
integrated job descriptions at the Band level, conducting staff learning & training
needs assessments, and developing training modules in a range of areas, including:
• Business Management
• Coaching
• Community Consultations
• Community Planning
• Conflict Resolution
• Financial Management
• Governance
• Proposal Writing
• Organizational Development
• Strategic Planning
Examples of our work include:
Chignecto led an organizational review of Sheshatshiu Innu Band Council to
determine where there are policy and program gaps, and provided recommendations
on how to fill them. (2006)
Chignecto led a governance review of the Sheshatshiu Band Council to assist
the new Council members on processes and developing good working relationship
with Band staff. This project included a site visit to another First Nation
to learn best practices (2006).
Chignecto undertook Prior Learning Assessments with Band staff of the Sheshatshiu
and Mushuau Innu Band Councils to identify existing capacities and identify
training needs for all staff (1998)

Our experience with Chignecto is that they produce quality work. They give
100% and are always on time. They give us the information we need to make
informed decisions without imposing their views or opinions.”
